Video Guitar Lesson #1
Hey, what’s up Folks?
How’s it going? Hope all is well.
I know I’m ready for the weekend! (It’s been
“one of those weeks” if you know what I mean.)
I’ve gotten a lot of questions about blues guitar
lately. So, I decided to create this *special* lesson
that will show you how to play a simple 12-bar blues.
Step 1: Get the tab for the video…
Right-click here and “Save as…” to save a copy of the tab to your computer. Then open the file or print it out.
Step 2: Watch the video! Pssst… at the end of the video I say, “I’ll show you the close-ups next. Well, I figured the closeups weren’t necessary since I provided the tab for you. So, there’s only one video for this lesson.
Cheers,
Dan Denley
P.S. Will you do me a favor? Will you leave me a comment
below and let me know what you think of this lesson? I’d really
appreciate it.
And if you have any questions just let me know. I’ll try my
best to answer them in a future lesson.

Thanks for making guitar easier!

Great!! I’m finished playing for tonight but can’t wait until tomorrow to practice it and learn to play it.
Thanks Dan

G’day Dan
Thanks for the great lesson. You explained it and showed clearly
in the video.
The video is thankfully in a format I can use, (I use Linux
not M$ Windows!).
I have almost mastered it, the cords are getting easier to
switch. (Slow learning, and timing is a struggle too).
I was playing it in the company of friends who are professional
and semi-pro musicians. One said “that’s good, but when is it going
to end!â€Â. Could we have some suggestions on how to wrap up a blues
song?
Cheers

Hey Dan,
Now thats the right way to teach someone. The closeups with the added options are great, and clearly show how to place the fingers and what you are doing. Super work!!
By John Russell |
I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am 55 years old and my hands do not work like I would like for them to but I was able to follow along and as I said I ,thoroughly enjoyed the lesson.
I am taking face to face lessons but feel that I learn more by looking at what others are doing as well. I have been working at it for 4 months so as you can imagine it is slow going at this time but I am determined to learn and spend my time wisely.
Thank you for what you are doing.
Sincerely,
Larry Herring

Hi Dan,
Great stuff. I’m a beginner. So, I have to practice lots of different things. Chord progressions, scales, etc. It’s fun to play your blues lessons and it keeps me from getting bored with the guitar. Nice videos and the closeups with the tab really help my rhythm and fingering. Keep doing it. Thanks.

Hi Dan,
I have been learning to play lead for about a year and a half. I want to say that your Amazing Guitar Secrets was the biggest help in learning. I have a long way to go. Your new video on the Blues is the best I have seen. I can’t wait to see what the whole will look like. I thank you for the lessons. Learning the blues will give me the feeling I need for the guitar.
Thanks Ed

I have practiced daily and have learned. I have played guitar for many years and have theory knowledge. Will your new course be geared towards the more experienced musicians or will it be including material for the novice?

Say Dan:
Merry Christmas!
But Danny listen! Your tapes have all not operated well for me. They’re all playing very poorly, they’re sticking and more like slow motioning and have you looking like King Kong on top of the Empire State building and sounding like chop suey. Maybe you can explain what I’m doing wrong.
But Dan, while I have you on the line…I need you to explain exactly what the effect of leger notes are or should be on tune. I mean like, effect on the body, and on the end of the song. You know, like, on the beat of the thing.
Thanks a lot, and happy holiday.

Thanks again Jim

Dan, I have been trying to get in a wee bit more of practice lately, but I can’t seem to get my pinky finger on my left hand to go where I want it to. I had it whacked off one fine September morning and sewn back on. ( Ahh,the Military) I also as mentioned in the past have had a few tiny strokes. With your VIDEO lessons I am almost able to get most of my old chops back due to just following you in practice. I wanted to thank you for taking your time out and doing this for us.
Well, I’m off to the V.A. to see if they are going to finally cut me up some more! What JOY they bring!
Cheers,
THANKS!

looks good to me and something that i could play although I don’t normally use power chords.I play mostly for fun and sing alongs and recently have been introduced to bluegrass music which I enjoy. My wish is to be able to pick\or play lead on bluegrass songs (take the break)it is a bit more complicated than I thought but still fun to try. great lesson:)

Not a tutorial because I don’t have much time, but here’s an email that I dropped Dan just a minute ago saying “thank you” mostly in regards to his AmazingGuitarSecrets.com course, but anything he puts out in general!!
*************************************
Hi Dan,
Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much I appreciate you and the time you put into all of this. I’m an intermediate guitarist and I’ve been slowly working my way through your Amazing Guitar Secrets course and the DVD and signed up for a few trial videos from your Blues project. I love how you lay everything out and have enough respect for education and your craft not to go off on these complicated riffs and solo for the camera. I was skeptical signing up for Amazing Guitar Secrets, but something made me go for it. The name is good and straight to the point, but it’s not common in music for “amazing” and “secrets” to be advertised in an education program and be worth anything… I plan on signing up for your Blues course, but money is an issue for this one. I understand you want this to be your means of living and you never stop working hard and planning for these things. You seem fairly young and so knowledgeable and sincerely caring about people understanding and learning…I’ve never met you and know it sounds weird, but I’m proud of you and your accomplishments with your courses because I know how much good can come from them and how make it all relate and make sense. I’m 20 years old and having some financial troubles, but I will order your Blues course as soon as I can, I love what I’ve seen in your trial lessons.

i love your lessons!! i’d love to hear more and more as i’m really keen to become good guitar player.. =P

The part 2, of lesson number 1, is GONE, SO I CANNOT SEE THE CLOSEUPS………can you help me out? Hey Dan,
I started playing at the age of 12 and played for about 10 years. I am now 55 and returned to playing 2 years ago after, if you can believe it, almost 30 years…where does the time go? Anyway, I like what I’m seeing and hearing. Wish this was around when I first started to play, perhaps I wouldn’t have taken such a long break (life just got in the way). Just wanted to commend you on what I consideer to be an outstanding program that you’ve developed. It should be a great source of inspiration for young and old alike.
Thanks,

You offered your blues course several weeks ago for around $97.00. What course was that? It included several cd’s etc and your guarantee of 10 mins. a day for 30 days and You can learn the basics of blues. Can you resend that info. I looked at your website and I’m not sure which course it actually was. Thanks Bob
By Robert |
Dan- In doing your first introductory instructional video, you seem to flub up one on the cords. Why wouldn’t you do another take instead of showing what looks like an amateurs mistake? Thanks, Dave

By rasika |
Hey Dan, This is the lesson that convinced me to buy your blues course. It is exactly the sort of music I want to learn to play. While I enjoyed the lesson very much there is a mistake in the tab provided. The only reason, at my level, that I caught it is that it was at the beginning. Since I’m a beginner I have to learn slowly from the tab and work my way up to tempo. But, to learn the blues you have to learn to listen. Maybe that was a lesson for the student also.
Thanks Dan,

Dear Dan,
It would be great if you’d offer lessons in specific areas at a low price, instead of a package deal that is too much for my budget, and has a lot of stuff I already know. Ooopsy ? I gotta agree with Dave’s comment. Why not edit out your mistake ? I think guitar playing is half presentation, and half actual ability.
Still, thanks for the free series of lessons, they’ve been helpful.

Hi your lessons are good, but it is hard to see your fingers and what notes you are playing. I am a visual person in two ways. I like to see the things I am doing and read the things I am doing. So maybe you could write out what the chords are. it would be really helpful. Thanks.

Excellent video, nice slow and easy to follow. Sometimes I like to uses another variation of the E7 and A7 chord for just a slightly different sound. Also reminder, using a capo to change to another key and still keep the same chord progression. Thaks for the free video.

Thank you so very much for keeping your lessions free. I don’t have the money to go out and get lessions at this time, so I am very thankful for what your are doing online..

By harry lorenzo |
could play it….
I know only some basic chords. Does the dvd come with lessons on tab??……
By Steve |
While I know all the moves already it was good to see it done in a new way…very helpful
By kp |
Thanks for the first lesson. THe tab was essential for me to understand what you were doing. Maybe explaining a little more about bends and slides would be useful for beginners like me!
Thanks again, Cathy O

I’m all fingers and thumbs at moment, but a real blues sound is coming from my guitar.

ello dan!i’ve been inspired of what u r teaching!i’ve learned so many things in playing the guitar!i’ve been very bless w/ u!keep up d good work!God bless

Great lesson - poor sound.
The prevalent mains hum and compressor breathing (noise pumping) is distracting to me. No need for any of this, it reduces the otherwise excellent impression. Mail me if you want to discuss it!

great lesson..
thanks dan!

I’ve been playing for some time now and am familiar with 12 bar blues. The sample first lesson was played at a good tempo for learning. I ordered the Gold Edition for the blues lessons and cannot wait to receive the material.

dan i love it

Dan, I have to tell you that you make it all so easy. Your video, coupled with the tab and I was playing this little blues number in five minutes, improvising over the changes too!! Thanks, I look forward to the whole course.

No Audio to listen to , why is the audio not comming onto my DELL computer.
By Brian |
Dan,
Just went to check the lesson 1, all I can find are many small files that add up to the page on your site, the ad page, the one with all of the testomonials.
Not much of use that I can find. That is probably owing to my computer skills and not your lesson.
Just an fyi, one or two testomonials would be fine, don’t need to know the whole customer base, you seem to really be who you say you are and the lesson samples look great.
I however am on a very small fixed budget and can’t afford the lessons. They are reasonabaly priced and seem worth everything you say they are. By the by you have something else going for you, you look like “Dan” from Brown’s Music in Yucca Valley. If you are as good of a teacher as he is a guitar repaired, your great.
Thanks for the site.

Well done Dan.
I’ve just begun an academic music course, and one of the options is ‘blues guitar’.
Having only ever previously played classical guitar, I’m now adapting finger picking (pima) to a steel strung (electric acoustic) instrument which I purchased 16 days ago.
All advice, hints and tips most welcome.
Regards … Jeff.
PS As I ‘read’ notation, I’ve no need for the tab.

Hi!
As a beginner I miss the Chords in tabs.
I did understand the chords but if it gets harder maybe I could not figure them out so easy.

Hallo, as I am living in Belgium, I would like to know if you deliver the course in BE and how long does it takes to reach me, and what about if I don’t receive it after paying it.
By Jean-Marie |
Hello Dan. I’ve heard about your method. I really want to improved it. The most important thing when you start to play, is to see what you can do, and what you can show…It’s really a great motivation. So this lesson is right like that…if you understand what I mean…It’s also something to enter yourself to the others lessons…
By Marc from Belgium |
I found you looking for guitar chords.
I am having a hard time finding a teacher,I guess I just found one.
Thanks!
By Donald |
Hi Dan,
Amazing lesson..however, I just broke two cords and have hurt my left eye..I am taking a break mate..God sake!!
See you soon;
By Dean |
Good more please, Regards Jeff
By Jeff |
impressed with your lessons and your fluent style. However my old fingers don’t seem to work correctly, just gotta practice. practice and practice
By Tony Barnett |
Dan,
The up/down stroke indicators on the tab for this free demo lesson (#1) appear to be incorrect. At least you’re not playing it that way in the video, and I would say that’s the correct way. Maybe you should fix the tab. Anyway, it was fun playing.
